Karin Rensfelt, MMFT, CCC, RCCI moved to Port Alberni, BC in August 2016 from Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Labrador. Before that, I worked for many years in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas. I have experience working with young children to adults in different life stages and clients from a variety of diverse cultures and backgrounds. My work is influenced by Attachment Theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Embodiment & Mindfulness, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I believe that people want secure and meaningful connections with others, and those relationships can help us grow and thrive. When these relationships have been ruptured we do have the ability to reshape, grow and repair or develop healthy relationships. I also believe that slowing down through self awareness and being in the present moment can help people handle difficult situations. I will work with you with compassion, at your pace and in a way to help you move in a new direction.
I have a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a Bachelors degree in psychology both from the University of Winnipeg. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), a Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and a member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT). I would like to acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional unceded territories of the Tseshaht and the Hupacasath First Nations. Both nations are members of the Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, which consists of 14 nations located on Western Vancouver Island. Karin also teaches yoga in the Alberni Valley.
